What is transitional living?

Transitional living is a care model that supports individuals in adjusting from a treatment environment back into community life. The KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program provides extended support for individuals struggling with eating disorders as they transition from their treatment environments into community life.

Why virtual?

Since the start of the pandemic, many programs have transitioned to telehealth and virtual support options to provide more convenient and accessible services. Additionally, geography is often a barrier to accessing adjunct specialized professional care. The virtual model breaks down these barriers, allowing us to welcome individuals from all over the country to join our supportive recovery community from the comfort of their homes.

How might the KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program benefit someone struggling to recover from an eating disorder?

Many individuals struggling with eating disorders wish for more time in a supportive environment, where they can connect with peers who are also in recovery, as well as specialized professionals. The KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program provides a family-like atmosphere for individuals to strengthen their coping skills and to receive support in adjusting to activities of daily life. Community support, combined with practical day-to-day skills, are often the “missing links” in eating disorder treatment that the Virtual Transitional Living Program can provide.

How do I know if the KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program is right for me or someone I love?

The KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program welcomes individuals 18 years or older who are committed to recovering from their eating disorder. If you see a therapist and dietitian regularly, but are looking for more support in reaching your recovery goals, you’re in the right place. The Virtual Transitional Living Program provides meal support, a team of caring coaches to help you learn practical skills, a supportive community of individuals who are also in recovery … and much more!

What criteria do I need to meet in order to apply for the KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program?

You must be 18 years or older to apply. We encourage a commitment of at least 90 days of participation in the KHF Virtual Transitional Living Program. You must be enrolled in an outpatient level of care for your eating disorder in order to participate. This includes meeting with your licensed therapist and registered dietitian regularly. If you have been recommended for, or are currently participating in a higher level of care (such as intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), or residential treatment), we encourage you to focus on your treatment and reach back out to us once you transition down to an outpatient level of care.

Is the VTLP right for me?

Many people who reach out to us are receiving therapy for an eating disorder but are looking for additional support outside of therapy appointments.

Others may be stepping down from a higher level of care (such as a residential treatment center or partial hospitalization program) and would like to be involved in a supportive environment as they navigate the transition to a lower level of care.

Still others may be struggling with their relationship with food and their bodies, and may not know where to start or how to find help. If this describes you, feel free to contact us using the form below.

If you fit into either of these categories, please request an application on the Transitional Living page.
